Ruthin Craft Centre presents The New Jewellery Re-Viewed: a celebration of the spirit and the legacy of 1980s jewellery

This is a special Ruthin Craft Centre symposium to coincide with the opening of Sculpture to Wear, the first major exhibition in the UK of the work of the exceptional jewellery artist Marjorie Schick.

Marjorie's work was first seen in the UK in 1982. It proved to have strong resonances for those working at the cutting edge of jewellery in Europe where, although it sprang independently from quite different roots, it exactly encapsulated the spirit of the moment. Key speakers with contemporary knowledge of this inspirational period for jewellery will review its impact and continuing legacy. The day will conclude with a panel discussion.

'Chrome Yellow Books', the specialists in contemporary craft publications, will also be there on the day with a comprehensive selection of the very latest books and catalogues together with many old favourites and collectables.

The Symposium will be held at Canolfan Glyndwr, Brynhyfryd School, Ruthin, on Saturday 21 November between 10am-5pm. The fee is £35.00 and includes a light lunch and refreshments.

Guest speakers include: Jane Adam, Caroline Broadhead, Paul Derrez, Sharon Plant, Phil Sayer and Marjorie Schick. The Symposium is programmed by Dr Elizabeth Goring.

Sculpture to Wear: Jewellery by Marjorie Schick opens at Ruthin Craft Centre on 21 November 2009 and continues until 17 January 2010.
