Mayor leads tributes to the fallen

Senior officials from Caerphilly county borough council will join local people from all sections of the community at remembrance parades taking place this weekend.

The Mayor, Cllr John Evans, his deputy and other senior members from the authority will represent the council at a number of parades and services to honour the brave men and women in our armed forces who have lost their lives fighting for freedom and democracy.

The council has also been working closely with the police to arrange road closures in order to enable parades to proceed safely.

Below are some of the events taking place this weekend:
  • Saturday 7th November - Laying of wreaths at the War Memorial, Rudry at 10.45 a.m.
  • Saturday 7th November, 1.30 p.m. - Laying of wreaths at the council offices in Pontllanfraith followed by service at St Augustine's Church.
  • Sunday 8th November - Service at St James Church, Rudry at 9.30 a.m., followed by laying of wreaths at War Memorial, Rudry.
  • Sunday 8th November, 10.45 a.m. - Service at St John's Church, Machen followed by laying of wreaths at the cenotaph.
  • Sunday 8th November, 11.00 a.m. - Service and laying of wreaths at Blackwood War Memorial, Pentwyn Road.
  • Sunday 8th November, 10.40 a.m. - Parade from Post Office, Oakdale followed by Service and laying of wreaths at Oakdale memorial at 11.00 a.m.
  • Sunday 8th November, 12.30 p.m. - Laying of wreaths at Maesycwmmer Community Garden, The Crescent.
  • Sunday 8th November, 2.15 p.m.- Parade from St Martin's Church, Caerphilly followed by Service and laying of wreaths at Caerphilly War Memorial, The Twyn at 3.00 p.m.
  • Wednesday 11th November, 11.00 a.m. - Armistice Day Service at Blackwood Market Place.
Poppies are also on sale at a number of council offices and community buildings and local people are being encouraged to support the annual appeal.
